The traditional video surveillance system primarily relies on analog signal monitoring and card-based digital systems. The analog system involves extensive wiring, consumes significant storage space, and makes data retrieval and evidence collection cumbersome. Meanwhile, the card-based digital system uses a PC and image acquisition card, resulting in high costs, requiring constant human supervision, and being unsuitable for harsh environments. In the field of video surveillance, the main challenges are achieving faster, more stable, and longer-distance information transmission, while reducing system cost, size, and power consumption.
To address these issues, a wireless video surveillance system based on embedded Windows CE 5.0 is proposed. This system overcomes the drawbacks of traditional setups, such as high cost, large size, limited transmission range, high power usage, and difficult installation. It introduces a new approach, method, and technical path for wireless video surveillance, with broad applications in security, distance education, remote video conferencing, and medical systems.
The hardware architecture of the wireless monitoring system consists of an embedded terminal and a server-side PC. The embedded terminal uses the S3C2440 microprocessor, based on the ARM9T20 core, which offers rich interfaces. It connects to a CMOS camera via a camera interface, communicates with a GPRS module through a serial port, and transmits data wirelessly. The server receives and processes this data using a GPRS receiving module. A block diagram of the system is provided, showing the overall structure.
The system captures image data through the S3C2440, compresses it, and sends it via the GPRS module. The PC decodes and displays the video. The core control board of the embedded terminal, featuring the S3C2440, is illustrated in a diagram.
The camera interface uses the OV9650 image sensor, supporting multiple output formats like RGB, YUV, and YCrCb. It includes built-in registers for configuration. The S3C2440's camera interface connects directly to the CMOS sensor, with specific data line connections shown in diagrams. A level-shifting chip (74LVC4245) ensures compatibility between different voltage levels.
For the GPRS module, the S3C2440's UART channels are used, with level conversion chips like MAX3232C ensuring compatibility with RS232 standards. Circuit diagrams illustrate the design.
Customizing the Windows CE 5.0 operating system involves importing a BSP package, selecting components, compiling the OS, and deploying it to the hardware. Platform Builder 5.0 is used for this process.
Camera driver development follows a streaming interface model, involving DLL creation, interrupt handling, event management, and registry configuration. An application is developed to display images on the embedded touch screen, with test results shown.
Serial port drivers follow a similar structure, using a layered model with MDD and PDD layers. The design is explained, along with a diagram of the driver structure.
The PC-based monitoring center program is developed using C# and WIN32 API, enabling real-time monitoring, recording, and capturing. VFW APIs are used for video processing, with debugging results displayed.
Video compression research focuses on MPEG-4, analyzing its encoding process and source code. The implementation on a PC is tested, showing the encoding workflow.
Wireless transmission using GPRS is explored, with TCP/IP and Socket APIs facilitating communication. The system demonstrates efficient video data transmission after compression.
In conclusion, the system integrates various technologies, including embedded systems, video coding, and wireless communication. It achieves compact design, low power consumption, and efficient performance. The monitoring software provides a user-friendly interface, and the theoretical research supports practical implementation. This foundation paves the way for future improvements in the system.
