On July 11th, Ms. Wang Jie, the CEO of Shenzhen-based virtual reality technology company 3Glasses, revealed exciting news about the company’s upcoming Windows Mixed Reality (MR) headset. This device, which is expected to hit the global market soon, will be marketed as part of the Windows MR Developer Suite. Ms. Wang emphasized during her announcement that this headset represents a significant milestone for both 3Glasses and the broader VR industry.
Interestingly, the new Windows MR headset from 3Glasses appears to be a refined version of their existing Lanpo S1 model. According to Wang Jie, the S1 underwent extensive testing involving over 200 teams at Microsoft’s headquarters in Seattle. She humorously noted, “Getting the Microsoft logo on it wasn’t an easy task!â€
Currently, Microsoft has partnered with six major companies to bring their Windows MR headsets to market. These include 3Glasses, along with well-known brands like Lenovo, HP, Acer, Asus, and Dell. The collaboration with 3Glasses was first announced at the WinHEC (Windows Hardware Engineering Community Innovation Summit) conference held in Shenzhen back in December 2016.
Rumors circulating in tech circles suggest that Microsoft’s Windows MR headsets will carry a competitive price tag, ranging between $199 and $299. This pricing strategy aims to make the technology accessible while still ensuring high-quality performance. Additionally, Microsoft is actively seeking out content creators and developers to produce immersive mixed reality experiences tailored specifically for their platform.
