Toshiba releases a new generation of self-encrypted hard disk replacement host to destroy data

Toshiba releases a new generation of self-encrypting hard drives Toshiba announced today the launch of its next-generation self-encrypting hard disk (SED) product line, the "MKxx61GSYG" series, which for the first time has achieved even more stringent security, as long as it is connected to an unknown host, it automatically erases the protected data.

Compared with the existing MKxx61GSYD series, the only change in the new MKxx61GSYG series is the introduction of this so-called "Wipe" technology. When the home appliance is turned on, the hard disk and the host controller will automatically run an authentication process, then load and enter the operating system. If they fail, they will refuse access, or simply securely erase the stored sensitive data.

The MKxx61GSYG series of self-encrypting hard drives still use the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) FIPS 197-certified AES 256-bit hardware encryption algorithm, which complies with the Trusted Computing Group's Opal security specification and supports remote security management technologies such as Intel AMT.

MKxx61GSYG series 2.5-inch hard disk thickness is the standard 9.5 mm, capacity has 160GB, 250GB, 320GB, 500GB, 640GB five kinds, of which the first three are single-disc, the latter two two-disc, interface SATA 3Gbps, cache 16MB, speed 7200RPM, average seek time 12ms, average delay 5.55ms, standby/tracking noise 23dB (single disc) or 25dB (dual disc).
