You take 100 mL of this sample and add 0.1 mL of a standard solution containing 10 mg/mL of inorganic chlorine. Assuming no volume change occurs, the final measured concentration comes out to be 2.98 mg/L. This results in a recovery rate of 98%, which shows that the method is fairly accurate.
It's worth noting that the term "degree of loss" isn't entirely precise. Instead, the closer the recovery rate is to 100%, the more accurate the method or kit is. In some cases, the recovery rate might even exceed 100%, depending on the experimental conditions and the nature of the sample.
In a recovery test, it's common to use concentrations at 80%, 100%, and 120% of the standard solution. This helps ensure that the results are reliable and that the standard curve remains linear. It’s also important to prepare samples as close as possible to the standard concentrations to avoid unnecessary variability.
