HTC challenges Apple’s dominance in the US smart phone market

HTC's four carriers in the United States have good smartphone sales on the Android platform, which makes HTC more emboldened and Apple competes for the US smartphone market dominance.

According to sources to DigiTimes, sales of Verizon's HTC Thunderbolt and AT&T Inspire 4G have not exceeded the sales of any of the iPhone operators, but it is said that these two versions are by far the best-selling Android phones. Coupled with the sales of the two HTC smartphones in Sprint and T-Mobile (which Apple has not yet worked with), HTC is enough to challenge Apple’s dominance of smart phones in the United States.

HTC Thunderbolt is said to be Verizon’s second most popular smartphone, following the iPhone, and the Inspire 4G is AT&T’s best-selling Android phone, which is three times more expensive than the Motorola Atrix 4G.

According to the report, thanks to sales from operators Sprint and T-Mobile, HTC ranked second in hardware sales in the first quarter of 2011, following Apple. HTC may also find a strategy for Apple’s dominance of US smartphones.

Sources said: "Because the next generation of iPhone is not yet available, plus competitor Motorola was forced to delay the launch of the Motorola Atrix 4G, which happens to give HTC an opportunity to seize more market share in order to resist Apple."

After years of enjoying the iPhone alone, AT&T decided to cooperate with Verizon earlier this year to introduce the iPhone to the largest wireless communications company in the United States. Non-exclusive agreements also provide T-Mobile and Sprint with an opportunity to work with Apple.

The rumors that operators Sprint and T-Mobile will sell the iPhone have been long, but Apple has not yet signed a cooperation agreement with the smallest of the four major US operators. In May, Wall Street analysts said the next generation of iPhone will support the Sprint and T-Mobile versions, which will increase the number of users of Apple products in the United States.

According to past practice, Apple will launch the next-generation iPhone at the WWDC conference, but at this year's conference, it broke this practice and instead launched iOS 5 and iCloud cloud services.
