Solar Inverter hits record high in Q2 shipments in 2010

Solar inverter shipments increased by as much as 284% in the second quarter and the same period in 2009, reaching a total of 4.9GW. More than half of shipments came from Germany, and the German market grew by 388%. Total shipments in the first half of 2010 were lower than last year. The same period increased threefold, 8GW more than the same period last year.
The EMEA region accounts for more than 90% of the growth rate of more than 300%, and the size of the American market has also doubled. Almost all regions have achieved considerable growth, generating about €15 billion in inverter revenue. For the first half of 2010 Inverted shipments total 8GW is almost all shipments in 2009.
Gray Sharma, director of the Institute of Photovoltaic Research at IMS , said that the shipment record broke the 3.7 GW record for the photovoltaic market in the fourth quarter of 2009, and increased by 30%. IMS Research's forecast is close to 15 GW of new PV installations in 2010. Although shipments increased by 284% in the second quarter of 2010, overall revenues increased by 65% because of a 30% drop in inverter prices. In spite of very high supply tightness and high demand, inverter prices are still continuous. The price fell in the fifth quarter. Most of this decline can be attributed to the application of larger inverters, which have a trend of inherently lower prices per watt.
With the impact of the market, IMS expects significant changes in inverter supplier market share. It is estimated that SMA's market leader's market share fell by 5%.
