Mobile phone semiconductor market revenue will increase 12% over the next three years

According to market research agency ABI Research, total revenue of mobile phone semiconductor shipments in 2010 will increase by approximately 5.5%, and it is expected to continue this growth momentum in the next three years. By 2013, the total revenue will increase by 12%.

Industry analyst Celia Bo said that the increase in the shipment rate of mobile phone processors and connected chips was the main reason for the growth of the industry. In terms of connecting chips, Peter Cooney, chief analyst at ABI Research, expects total revenue from mobile phone Bluetooth, GPS, and Wi-Fi chips to grow by more than 15% this year and reach $3.5 billion in 2015.

Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Texas Instruments are major players in the mobile phone chip market. Their shipments account for about 80% of the total industry shipments. Among them, Qualcomm continues to maintain its leading position in the market, and its advantages in high-end smart phones are obvious. ABI expects Qualcomm will continue to sit steadily in the next few years with a strong intellectual property database and leading technology covering almost all product categories. Data show that in fiscal 2010, Qualcomm's MSM chip shipments reached a record 399 million units, an increase of 26% over the same period last year.

Peter Cooney, chief analyst at ABI Research, said: "Connected chips will be the key force driving the growth of the mobile phone semiconductor market in the next five years. It is expected that total revenue from mobile phone Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi chips will increase by more than 15% this year, and Reached $3.5 billion in 2015."

Among all connected chips, Bluetooth has the highest ratio of placement compared to other products. Its average penetration rate in 2010 is expected to reach 55%. The penetration rate of GPS in 2010 is expected to reach 23%, and it will maintain its growth momentum in the next five years, rising to 45% by 2015. In the next five years, Wi-Fi chip revenue growth will exceed Bluetooth and GPS, and is expected to reach US$1.4 billion in 2015. Its compound annual growth rate from 2010 to 2015 is 14%.
