Qingdao Artificial Intelligence: "New Species" Changes Life and Creates Future Industry Engines

At the 19th Party Congress, a major report emphasized the need to integrate the Internet, big data, and artificial intelligence with the real economy. In line with this vision, the city’s economic and financial work conference highlighted innovation as the key driver for high-quality development, aiming to continuously stimulate new momentum in social and economic growth.

The artificial intelligence (AI) industry is now a powerful engine driving the city's pursuit of high-quality development. Talent is rapidly emerging, industries are booming, and the ecosystem is continuously improving. A thriving AI sector is taking shape, offering fresh opportunities and reshaping traditional and emerging sectors. AI is providing a steady flow of energy, helping to transition from old to new sources of growth.

From smart homes and nanny robots to security robots, AI is transforming daily life. Digital domain expert Kevin Kelly once said that AI will become as essential as electricity, with intelligence flowing through the internet like power. As AI becomes more integrated into our lives, its impact is becoming increasingly visible and deeply felt.

At the Fourth World Internet Conference, Qingdao-based company Qingdao Klud Robot Co., Ltd. made waves by introducing the first touch-screen smart speaker in the industry. In the Jiaozhou Economic Development Zone, reporters witnessed the "Wow-Europe" smart speaker—an intelligent device capable of controlling curtains, adjusting temperature and lighting, playing music, and even boiling water.

"Wow-Europe" is an advanced AI product that supports over 80 home scenarios and integrates various technologies such as machine vision, face recognition, automatic planning, and language understanding, according to Wang Yunzhi, CEO of Qingdao Keluode Robotics Co., Ltd. With ongoing R&D breakthroughs, AI is becoming more versatile, adapting to a wide range of applications and meeting diverse needs.

In Qingdao, AI is making its mark across multiple areas—from smart homes and childcare robots to security and firefighting robots, and even smart gyms. These "new species" of AI are gradually entering daily life, profoundly changing how people live and work.

The integration of AI with the real economy is enabling both traditional and emerging industries to evolve. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released a three-year action plan to promote this deep integration, emphasizing AI's role in empowering industries. According to Yu Haiyan, general manager of Baidu Zhichuang base, AI's integration with industry is a form of empowerment that can reshape economic activities at every level, from production to consumption.

Qingdao's intelligent manufacturing is a prime example of AI's transformative power. The city has been selected for several smart manufacturing pilot projects, showcasing how AI can enhance efficiency and reduce costs. Companies like Sen Qilin and FAW Jiefang have leveraged AI to improve production processes and achieve greater flexibility and productivity.

A traditional lock company in Qingdao has also benefited from AI, evolving into an industry leader by developing high-tech products such as fingerprint, face, iris, and vein recognition locks. These innovations combine safety, convenience, and style, establishing a strong competitive edge.

With advancements in image recognition, drones, and virtual reality, a new AI ecosystem is forming. Qingdao's Intelligent Industry Technology Research Institute has played a key role in nurturing AI technology, focusing on smart manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, and health. Over the years, it has generated numerous patents and research achievements.

As AI continues to grow, more companies are emerging in the field. Qingdao Huituo Intelligent Machine specializes in autonomous driving solutions, while Sinotrans Technology has launched innovative translation apps that blend human and machine capabilities. The industrial cluster is gaining momentum, with virtual reality companies in Laoshan District generating billions in revenue.

Initiatives like the "Shinshui" ecological group are promoting smart living, uniting over 40 companies and deploying smart home parks nationwide. As AI talent and resources continue to accumulate, Qingdao is becoming a vibrant hub for innovation.

The city's recent "Double Hundred Thousands of Millions" project aims to upgrade traditional industries, strengthen advantageous sectors, and foster future growth. By 2020, the AI industry is expected to reach a total output value of 30 billion yuan, with over 500 companies involved. By 2022, Qingdao aims to become a leading AI cluster in China, driving the next wave of industrial transformation.
