Hyundai Motor launches intelligent AI assistant system is expected to come out in 2019

In a recent report, Hyundai Motor unveiled its intelligent AI assistant system, which was set to be showcased at the 2018 CES conference. This advanced system is designed to offer real-time traffic updates, make calls, check the weather, and perform other essential tasks. The technology is expected to be available in vehicles as early as 2019. At the 2018 CES event, Hyundai presented its new intelligent personal assistant, a voice-activated system that allows drivers to control various car functions, such as adjusting the air conditioner or locking the doors, simply by speaking. Beyond basic controls, the assistant can also provide traffic information, send messages, check the weather, and more, making it a powerful tool for modern drivers. A related image shows the AI assistant being introduced, with expectations that it will become widely available in 2019. In addition to this, Hyundai had previously demonstrated augmented reality (AR) applications at the 2016 CES, helping car owners with maintenance tasks. Now, the company is focusing on integrating voice-based AI into its vehicles. Hyundai has partnered with SoundHound, a leading voice AI technology company, using its Houndify platform to develop the intelligent personal assistant. Drivers will soon be able to activate the system with a simple command like “Hi, Hyundai.” The company plans to test a simplified version of the assistant in 2018 on its next-generation fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), conducting real-world tests in Korea. This AI assistant is not just reactive—it's proactive. It predicts driving needs and offers helpful information before the driver even asks. For instance, it might remind you of an upcoming meeting and suggest the best time to leave based on current traffic conditions. The system supports a wide range of voice commands, allowing users to control in-car functions, manage their schedules, and even interact with smart home devices through Car-to-Home services. For example, a driver could say, “Tell me the weather tomorrow and also check the lights in the living room,” and the assistant would handle both requests seamlessly. Other features include making phone calls, sending text messages, searching for music, finding destinations, checking the weather, and managing travel itineraries. The system is also designed to gather data for future vehicle connectivity initiatives. Currently, the voice assistant supports English, with plans to expand to additional languages in the near future. Overall, Hyundai’s intelligent personal assistant represents a major step forward in the integration of AI into the automotive industry, enhancing both convenience and safety for drivers.
