The National Standards Commission formally issued standards for LED spotlights and downlights

On July 29, 2011, the National Standards Committee officially issued the "Performance Requirements for Reflective Self-ballasted LED Lamps", "Method for Testing the Performance of Reflective Self-ballasted LED Lamps," "Performance Requirements for LED Downlights," and "Performance of LED Downlights." This indicates that the technical specifications of "LED downlight" and "reflective self-ballasted LED lighting products" released by the National Semiconductor Lighting Research and Development and Industry Alliance (hereinafter referred to as "the Alliance") in July 2010 will be upgraded to national standards.

To guide the design, production, and use of LED spotlights and downlights, to standardize and guide application and development, the Alliance released in July 2010 the technical specifications of “LED downlights” and “reflective self-ballasted LED lighting products”. The technical content was adopted in 2010 by the National Development and Reform Commission and other three ministries and commissions to carry out the "Semiconductor Lighting Product Application Demonstration Project" technical guide.

In order to further promote the standardization of semiconductor lighting products, under the coordination of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the National Standards Committee, the National Standardization Committee decided to issue the "reflective self-ballasted LED lighting products" and "LED downlight" specifications issued by the Alliance as Based on the formulation of national standards. On June 28th, 2011, more than 30 representatives of more than 20 domestic testing organizations, research institutes, and key enterprises of the coalition organized discussions on the technical requirements, contents, performance, and test methods of the standard, respectively. The relevant results discussed at the meeting were reported to the National Standards Committee. The alliance made a difference between the "LED downlight" and the original LED standard for lighting fixtures established by the National Standardization Committee. It communicated with the National Lighting Standard Committee and finally determined the "reflective self-ballasted LED lamp performance requirements" and "reflective type". Self-ballasted LED lamp performance testing methods, "LED downlight performance requirements" and "LED downlight performance testing methods," the four standards were established. The drafting unit of Performance Requirements for Reflective Self-ballasted LED Lamps and Performance Test Method for Reflective Self-ballasted LED Lamps is the National Electric Light Source Quality Inspection Center (Beijing) and the Union Secretariat--Beijing Semiconductor Lighting Technology Promotion Center. The drafting unit of "LED Downlight Performance Requirements" and "LED Downlight Performance Test Method" was Shanghai Shiguang Lighting Electrical Testing Co., Ltd. Standard seminars will start soon.

In order to standardize the development of semiconductor lighting devices and market promotion of application products, the alliance began to formulate technical specifications for semiconductor lighting products from 2007, and set up a coalition standard coordination and promotion working group to coordinate the development of semiconductor lighting related standards. The alliance will continue to promote the research and formulation of semiconductor lighting technical specifications, further promote the standardization of semiconductor lighting, and actively provide continuous support services for the technical innovation, application development, and market application of semiconductor lighting strategic emerging industries.
