Vishay Introduces High Speed ​​Silicon PIN Photodiode

MALVERN, PA — May 15, 2013 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has unveiled a new line of high-speed infrared transmitters and a complementary photodiode, expanding its optoelectronics product portfolio. The new infrared emitters include the VSMG10850 operating at 850nm and the VSMB10940 at 940nm, along with the VEMD10940F, a high-speed silicon PIN photodiode sensitive to radiation between 780nm and 1050nm. These components are designed for applications requiring fast response times and high performance in compact form factors. The VSMG10850 and VSMB10940 feature an ultra-wide half-angle of ±75°, making them ideal for applications that require broad coverage. Their side-view surface-mount packages measure just 3mm x 2mm with a height of only 1mm, offering a low-profile solution that is easy to integrate into modern electronic devices. The infrared emitters come in a clear, colorless package and deliver a typical illumination intensity of 1 mW/sr at 20 mA, which is 33% higher than similar products on the market. They also boast a fast switching time of just 15 nanoseconds. The VSMB10940 utilizes GaAlAs multi-quantum well technology, providing a typical forward voltage of 1.3V, while the VSMG10850 employs double heterostructure technology with a forward voltage of 1.4V. This ensures efficient operation and reliability in various environments. Complementing these emitters is the VEMD10940F photodiode, which includes a daylight filter tuned to work with 830nm to 950nm IR emitters like the VSMG10850 and VSMB10940. It offers a reverse photocurrent of 3μA, a dark current of 1nA, and a peak sensitivity at 920nm. Its low photocurrent temperature coefficient of 0.1%/K makes it highly stable across different temperatures, ensuring consistent performance in demanding applications. These components are well-suited for use in infrared touch panels found in printers, e-book readers, smartphones, tablets, ultrabooks, and GPS navigators. They are designed for long-term storage, with a 168-hour workshop life and a moisture sensitivity level of 3 as per J-STD-020 standards. Additionally, they support lead-free reflow soldering and comply with Vishay’s green manufacturing standards. Samples and production quantities of the VSMG10850, VSMB10940, and VEMD10940F are now available, with lead times ranging from six to eight weeks. This latest addition to Vishay’s optoelectronics lineup is set to enhance performance and efficiency in a wide range of consumer and industrial electronics.
