Wastewater turns into a clear lake
The ARA Schönau plant processes domestic and industrial waste water from more than 140,000 inhabitants in the surrounding area. In dry weather conditions, the processing capacity is 800 litres/second, and in wet weather the fastest is 1600 litres/second, in addition to mechanical cleaning. And the ability to flow into nearby rivers is 1200 liters/second.
The 30 pumping stations near Lake Zug are used to collect surface water and stormwater pools around town wastewater. The stormwater pool has a storage capacity of 100-1000 cubic meters and the capacity of the pump station to treat wastewater is 20-30 liters/second. Surface water from residential areas is treated separately and flows directly into the lake. The wastewater from the stormwater pool was pumped to the ARA Schönau plant. Between the remote pump station and the ARA Schönau plant there is a 75-km tube tunnel connection. This tube-type tunnel system has a storage capacity of 8,000 cubic meters. It is used as a huge stormwater pool. During the rainstorm, the water in the stormwater pool was quickly filled. At this time, some water would flow into the lake. This outlet could discharge a very small amount of water at the top of the pool.
Remote real-time monitoring
Remote pump stations are not easy to control, so for a plant's SCADA system, real-time monitoring of each pump station becomes very important. Chestonag solved this problem by setting up an intranet through station-to-station modems. The input of a total of 1,100 signals allows the control system of the pumping station to monitor and regulate the water level smoothly and distribute the water in the central plant.
