CMOSIS introduces the industry's first global shutter 48M pixel CMOS image sensor capable of supporting 8K image points at 30 frames per second

At the Machine Vision Exhibition in Stuttgart, from November 8th to 10th, the CMV50000 will be showcased at the CMOSIS booth (H46 in Hall 1). This groundbreaking sensor represents a major leap forward in high-resolution imaging technology. Developed by ams AG, a leading provider of high-performance sensors and analog ICs, the CMV50000 is the first global shutter CMOS image sensor from CMOSIS with an impressive 48 megapixel resolution—more than doubling the performance of its predecessor. The CMV50000 features a patented 8-transistor pixel design with a 4.6μm pixel size, delivering a resolution of 7920 x 6002. Its global shutter capability ensures accurate capture of fast-moving objects without distortion, making it ideal for industrial machine vision, broadcast, and high-speed video applications. The sensor also offers an impressive optical dynamic range of up to 64dB in full resolution mode and 68dB in 4K subsampling mode, along with advanced on-chip noise reduction techniques like dark level clamping to enhance image quality in low-light conditions. With a frame rate of up to 30fps at full resolution or 60fps in 4K subsampling mode, the CMV50000 supports high-speed operations while maintaining a 12-bit pixel depth. This makes it a powerful alternative to traditional CCD sensors, offering better integration, lower power consumption, and faster performance. It's particularly well-suited for automated optical inspection systems and display testing in mobile devices, laptops, and TVs. Wim Wuyts, Marketing Manager at ams AG, highlighted that the CMV50000 provides camera manufacturers with the benefits of CMOS technology without compromising on resolution. "Its advanced noise reduction and high dynamic range eliminate the need for complex analog output circuits typically found in multi-tap CCD sensors, significantly reducing development time," he said. Currently, monochrome samples of the CMV50000 are available, with the color version expected later in 2016. For more information or to request samples, visit the official website.
