Enterprise SSD new high: single card IOPS over 10,000 read 6.2GB/s

Enterprise SSD new high: single card IOPS over 10,000 read 6.2GB/s Although due to cost constraints, ordinary individual users may not see such a system for many years, but it does represent the future and represents the direction of technology. Fusion-io, an enterprise-level solid-state storage vendor, announced at the SuperComputer 2012 High-Performance Computing Conference in New Orleans, United States last week that its ioDrive Octal solid-state memory card has reached a new world record in performance. Its single-card random read-write IOPS performance exceeds one million Continuous reading speed of 6.2GB/s.

Fusion-io said at the meeting that each year they will demonstrate a system with an IOPS performance of 1 million, but each time will achieve a quantum leap in volume. In 2008, they worked with IBM's Project Quicksilver to achieve one million IOPS in a single rack rack. In 2009, HP's ProLiant team already needed only one server. Today, this performance can be achieved with only a PCI-E solid state memory card.

The ioDrive Octal uses a PCI-E 2.0 x16 interface, dual slot design, and up to 8 IOMemory modules. If the SLC particle module is inserted, it can achieve 2.56TB capacity, 64KB read speed 6.2GB/s, write 6.0GB/s, 512Byte access delay 26 microseconds. If using MLC particle modules, the maximum capacity is 5.7TB, the read speed is 6.2GB/s, and the write is 4.4GB/s with a delay of 30 microseconds.

Of course, the cost of having such a crazy performance system is beyond the reach of ordinary individuals and even businesses. Customers who have demonstrated the performance of the system with Fusion-io are almost all official scientific research institutions. For example, the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the United States has tried the solid-state memory card in its supercomputer for climate simulation, and its measured performance is higher than that of HDD hard disks. The clustering plan has increased by 500%. Another confidential U.S. space research institute also tested the application of this technology for remote data transmission. Based on the ioDrive Octal and 10GB/s high-speed network, they tested the transfer of data from Illinois to Maryland and then to the New Orleans venue. The measured transmission rate was 4000MB/s.
