FPGA vendors offer a wide range of devices and sophisticated development tools for embedded system design

With the rapid advancement of consumer electronics and the Internet of Things, user demands have become increasingly complex and diverse. As a result, selecting the appropriate processor (SoC) is crucial when designing embedded systems. Alongside factors like cost, power consumption, performance, and I/O resources, the choice of platform plays a key role in determining the success of a project. Over time, FPGAs have emerged as the preferred solution for many embedded system designs due to their flexibility, scalability, and adaptability. FPGA vendors now offer a wide range of devices and sophisticated development tools that make embedded system design more efficient and accessible. Among these, Xilinx stands out as a leader in programmable logic solutions. Their extensive product portfolio and powerful toolchain have made them a go-to choice for engineers worldwide. Xilinx has evolved from traditional FPGA-based designs to more integrated SoC solutions. Initially, pure FPGAs were used with soft-core processors like Microblaze or Picoblaze. Today, the Zynq SoC and Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC series integrate hard-core processors—such as dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 or quad-core A53 plus dual-core R5—offering better performance, lower power consumption, and improved cost-effectiveness while reducing board size. Power management has also seen significant improvements. The Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC family supports multiple power modes, including Full-Power, Low-Power, Sleep, and Power-Off, allowing for flexible trade-offs between performance and energy efficiency. In terms of analog processing, earlier Xilinx devices only supported internal monitoring via ADCs. However, the 7 Series introduced 1 Msps@12-bit ADC modules, enabling both internal and external analog signal acquisition. The Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC takes this further by integrating high-performance ADCs/DACs: 4 Gsps@12-bit ADCs and 6.5 Gsps@14-bit DACs, making it suitable for applications like radar, 5G, and high-speed communications. Security is another area where Xilinx has made great strides. Both the Zynq-7000 SoC and Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC support encrypted bitstreams, ensuring secure boot and protecting intellectual property. For developers, Xilinx offers a suite of powerful tools. Vivado, introduced with the Zynq-7000 series, includes features like IP Integrator (IPI), which simplifies IP integration, and High-Level Synthesis (HLS), allowing engineers to generate HDL code from C/C++ languages. SDSoC provides a full system-level design environment for hardware-software co-design, while SDAccel supports OpenCL-based development for accelerated computing. These advancements demonstrate that FPGA/SoC vendors are continuously working to enhance device capabilities and streamline the development process. As a result, the learning curve for embedded system design has become less steep, and the future looks promising for even broader FPGA/SoC adoption across various industries.

AS-i Passive Distributor

The AS-I (i.e. actuator-sensor interface) bus belongs to the bus system at the bottom device level. It is a two-wire network for digital input and output, which complies with EN50295 and IEC62026-2 specifications.
Various types of digital devices can be connected, such as: Sensors, limit switches, buttons, valves, relays, light curtains and emergency stop switches, etc., and send signals to higher-level controls such as PC, PLC, CNC or DCS system. In general, AS-I does not require shielded cables and terminal resistors.
The unshielded two-wire cable used carries both the signal and the power. Generally speaking, the AS-I bus system is simple and reliable, easy to install and fast to configure, and is widely used in industrial automation fields such as logistics, automobile production, petrochemical industry, and elevator control.
The As-I Passive Distributor simple module is pierced and connected to the flat cable, which is suitable for installation in a narrow space, and can provide connection methods such as aviation connectors.
