Taiwan's 700,000 traffic lights 2011 will be replaced with LED lights

A total of 700,000 miles of traffic signals will be completed in Taiwan. In 2011, the LED lights will be completely replaced. This will reduce the use of electricity by 232 million kWh and the energy efficiency will reach 90%.

From 2003, Taiwan began to replace incandescent lamps with LED lamps. From 2009, it plans to invest nearly NT$1.2 billion in three years in the next three years. To replace the entire country with LED traffic lights, the project is expected to be completed in 2011.

The Taiwan Energy Board estimated that after replacing traditional incandescent lamps with LED lamps, the energy-saving benefit could reach 90%. Looking at the 700,000-unit traffic signal lights in Taiwan, it will save nearly 230 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year and reduce CO2 generation. Emissions reached 162,000 tons.
