TranSwitch Launches HDWireTM Interface Solution HDwireTM

21ic News, the US company TranSwitch has introduced the HDwireTM video interface solution. The company's HDwireTM video interface solution features the industry's fastest video interface to support contemporary and next-generation high-definition (HD) video displays. The ultra-high-speed HDwireTM panel interface guarantees reliable, crystal-clear video with the highest resolution computers and TVs with low power consumption and low system design cost. TranSwitch will initially offer HDwireTM in the form of a licensable intellectual property (IP) core and plans to provide integrated circuits in the future.

Current low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) television internal interfaces operate at relatively slow speeds and require a large number of cables to transmit video signals from the video processor to the display panel controller. As the size, resolution, refresh rate, and color depth of new LCD/LED panels continue to increase, the number of LVDS cables required is also rapidly increasing, which in turn increases the cost and complexity of televisions and computer monitors. Truman's HDwireTM transceivers are designed to support the needs of new displays without the need for expensive cables and connectors.

Amir Bar-Niv, senior vice president and general manager of the high-speed interconnect business unit at TranSwitch, said: "With our extensive experience in ultra-high-speed video interconnect standards and close relationships with leading consumer electronics manufacturers, Trusun has developed the industry's fastest video interface solution to replace the old LVDS technology. The US-based TranSwitch HDwireTM solution delivers up to 5Gbps of performance and scalability per link, with other solutions. Compared to the solution, this solution can significantly reduce the cabling costs of high-definition (HD) and ultra-high definition (UHD) panels. With the advent of ultra-high definition (UHD) content, manufacturers can now take advantage of the extremely fast HDwireTM video interface. To develop ultra-high-dot (DPI) displays and TV screens. By increasing the dot pitch, the display can present a clearer video than ever before."

According to DisplayMark's Quarterly Report on TV Design and Function, sales of digital TVs and computer monitors are expected to reach 270 million and 220 million units respectively in 2014. In addition, a new flat-panel TV with a resolution of 4K x 2K (beyond 1080p) will be put into production in 2012. As TV and display OEMs phase out LVDS technology, HDwireTM brings a new and huge potential market and growth opportunity to TranSwitch. It is estimated that by 2014, the market for HD panel interface solutions will exceed $250 million annually.

TranSwitch's new HDwireTM solution is a fully integrated transceiver that provides up to 12 channels with link speeds up to 5.0 Gbps and supports 4K x 2K resolution and 8K x 4K resolution.

Key features of the HDwireTM video interface solution from TranSwitch:

Industry leading performance, supporting current and future display resolutions

• Scalable configuration with up to 12 forwarding data channels • Link speeds up to 5.0Gbps per channel
• Supports 4K x 2K resolution (refresh rate 120 Hz) and 8K x 4K display • Optional reverse channel for transmitting touch screen, camera, audio and other data • Low power consumption
