Used home appliances meet new regulations

The “Measures” stipulate that from May 1st this year, when an operator purchases old electrical and electronic products, it shall register the acquired products. Provide sales vouchers or invoices to buyers and provide free warranty service for no less than 3 months. According to a reporter’s visit yesterday, in response to the new regulations to be implemented, many operators have begun to cut prices for used-car home appliances.

In several second-hand household appliance trading markets, operators have not agreed on warranty periods and warranty obligations when selling second-hand TVs, washing machines, and refrigerators, and some second-hand computers have only one month warranty. "After the implementation of the "Measures," the past buying, pricing, and transaction methods will change and form a new transaction model." Mr. Wang, who has been engaged in the recycling business of old appliances for many years in the foreign goods market, told reporters.

Many second-hand home appliances have been labeled with “sales”. A 29-inch old TV was sold for 300 yuan last month and is now sold for 240 yuan. Another 70 litre freezer is not only cheaper for 50 yuan, but also a 15-litre small refrigerator. One operator stated that many second-hand household electrical appliances in stock were “three nothing” goods. They did not request the original purchase vouchers, did not register product information, and did not create file information. A second-hand appliance company told reporters that it is now possible to sell several pieces of old appliances every day, and the transaction volume has nearly doubled from the original.

In response, Bai Yuhua, vice president of the Tianjin Electronic and Electrical Product Maintenance Industry Association, reminds consumers not to blindly buy “three-nothing” used home appliances because they are difficult to guarantee because of the hidden dangers of security.
