Apple applies for a foldable screen patent! Is the foldable iPhone far from us?

[PConline News] The main strength of a smartphone lies in its portability, but as screen sizes continue to grow in order to offer users a more immersive visual experience, this comes at the cost of convenience. Larger phones are harder to carry and can be cumbersome in daily use. However, things might be about to change.

On the evening of November 23, Beijing Time, according to a document published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Apple has filed a patent for a foldable screen. This suggests that a foldable iPhone may be closer to reality than we think.

In the patent filing, Apple stated: “An electronic device includes a flexible section that allows the device to be folded. The device features a flexible display with a bendable area. When the device is folded, the screen bends along the folding axis.”

This isn't the first time Apple has been linked to foldable technology. A year ago, it was reported that Apple was collaborating with LG Display to develop foldable OLED panels. More recently, another report suggested that Apple and LG have already created a foldable OLED screen for the iPhone. Additionally, Apple is reportedly considering investing in LG's manufacturing facilities.

Both reports highlight Apple’s partnership with LG on foldable OLED screens. However, the newly filed patent covers three types of display technologies: LCD, OLED, and microLED. This indicates that Apple may be exploring multiple options for future devices.

If this is true, Apple could be shifting toward microLED technology. Compared to OLEDs, microLEDs offer similar benefits but with higher brightness, better color saturation, and lower power consumption. They also have a longer lifespan, making them a promising next-generation display solution.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Apple is working with TSMC to advance microLED screen development, with the goal of replacing OLEDs in the coming years. Like OLEDs, microLEDs may first appear in Apple’s smartwatches before being integrated into iPhones and other devices.

As the tech industry races toward more flexible and durable displays, Apple’s move into foldable and microLED technology signals a major shift in the smartphone landscape. Whether it will lead to a new era of mobile devices remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—Apple is preparing for the future.

Car Wire Harness

Car cable harness, also known as a wire harness, cable assembly, wiring assembly or wiring loom, is an assembly of electrical cables or wires which transmit signals or electrical power. The cables are bound together by connector, terminal, cable ties, sleeves, electrical tape, conduit, PVC tube, corrugate tube, string, or a combination thereof.

Commonly used in automobiles, as well as construction machinery, cable harnesses provide several advantages over loose wires and cables. For example, many aircraft, automobiles and spacecraft contain many masses of wires which would stretch over several kilometres if fully extended. By binding the many wires and cables into a cable harness, the wires and cables can be better secured against the adverse effects of vibrations, abrasions, and moisture.
