CMMB Romance: The world is flat

The 2007 standards battle, the 2008 Olympics, the encryption operation in 2009, and China in 2010. CMMB went up and down all the way. What is the prospect of CMMB? This is the question of many people. Through a series of in-depth interviews, China Broadcasting Corporation will launch a series of CMMB romance reports to review the past with the industry, think about reality, and look to the future.

"The word" flat "is very valuable. We all know that the world is flat. This is the ideal of the Internet without a digital divide. This ideal is scientifically based because information sharing is much easier than material sharing." 2009 On the morning of August 23, 2014, the Next Generation Network Convergence and Development Forum was held at the Beijing Xinyuan Hotel. Academician Li Youping of the Chinese Academy of Engineering stood on the podium and elaborated on the above paragraph when elaborating on the structure of the broadcast and storage for many years of research The voice was loud, and the venue was silent.

As the organizer of the forum, China Broadcasting Corporation listened to this report by Academician Li on the spot. However, at the time, how could it not be related to CMMB?

Three important findings

The two research topics of the four academicians, which lasted four years, made three important discoveries, thus laying the foundation for the theory of sowing and depositing.

In 2006, the three academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Li Youping, Ni Guangnan and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Chen Shigang conducted a study on "Concept of Broadcasting Grid Engineering". In 2008, Academician Li and Academician Zhang Yaoxue also conducted the research project of "Informatization Promoting Advanced Culture". The results of these two studies have three important findings.

Discovery 1: Cultural transmission takes up half of the Internet's bandwidth.

Research data shows that HTTP traffic accounts for 30% -35% of Internet traffic, including graphic text 20%, video 10% -15%, and P2P traffic accounts for about 40% -50% of Internet traffic. The above two are both cultural communication, which add up to more than 70-85%, occupying most of the bandwidth, and are "point-to-point" case exchanges (including Telnet, e-mail, MSN, etc.) only 15-30%.

According to mathematicians, the "random network model" of Poisson distribution is gradually replaced by the "scale-free network model" of power-law distribution, and the Internet has basically evolved into a scale-free network.

Discovery 2: Cultural visits to the top 1000 mainstream websites.

Although netizens can freely access any one of the millions of websites, most netizens are interested in the first thousand. The study conducted a half-year observation of two tens of thousands of people in Beijing and Sichuan. The results showed that the top 10 websites accounted for 40%, the top 50 accounted for 60%, the top 500 accounted for 85%, and the top 1000 accounted for about 90%. The first thousand kinds of websites attracted the vast majority of visits, and the first dozens of video websites attracted the vast majority of visits.

The visit is independent, free and individual, but the results are clustered. The first one thousand kinds have concentrated 80% -90% of social influence and become the "mainstream group" that leads the direction of cultural advancement.

Discovery 3: Broadcasting has the ability to push mainstream culture.

Research data shows that on all websites in the country, there are 2 million new web pages every day, and the total number of updated bytes is 30GB per day; about 200 hours of new influential video pages are generated daily in the country, and the total number of bytes is 120GB per day; the above two Taken together, the daily update volume of mainstream culture is less than 150GB.

Li Youping pointed out that if the terminal has storage capacity, 1Mb / s can be pushed to 10.8GB a day, so that a single DVB-S, DVB-C, DTMB or CMMB broadcast channel has the ability to push 150GB / day mainstream cultural content. A 38Mb / s broadcast channel can push up to 400G of content every day.

Therefore, a broadcast network covering a wide range of urban and rural areas in China is fully capable of disseminating mainstream cultural content widely and quickly to thousands of households. Through the combination with personal storage, it is possible to "store culture in the folk".

"'Everything is known, each needs what's needed' is the highest ideal of mankind for the information society. The web service based on the telecommunications network has provided the basic environment of" everything is known "for human beings; the next step is integration to overcome poverty Rich barriers, geographical barriers, semantic barriers, and security barriers, and creating a fair service of information 'requesting each' is a major strategic goal in China and even the world. "Academician Li Youping believes that push broadcast storage is precisely the realization of this One goal solution.
