South Korea's KMW exhibits a hard hat with built-in LED lighting

South Korea's KMW recently exhibited a hard hat with built-in wireless communication function and LED lighting function in Japan. The development of the "i-MetH" for construction sites and heavy industrial applications, and "i-MetD" for disaster relief purposes.

The i-MetH embeds a two-way wireless communication module using the 2.4 GHz band in the earmuff portion, and the transmission power is set to a maximum of 20 dBm, "a few hundred meters can be transmitted." It also supports specific low-power wireless communication in the 400MHz band and weighs 550g. The lithium polymer rechargeable battery for wireless communication can communicate for about 6 hours, and the LED lighting has a maximum output power of 2W. It is envisaged to use its wireless communication function to be used for communication purposes of staff at the construction site or to guide evacuation in the event of a disaster.

i-MetD is also envisaged for disaster prevention purposes in public facilities such as primary and secondary schools. It weighs only 500g and is lightweight. In addition to LED lighting, it also has a specific low-power wireless communication function in the 400MHz band, and the built-in lithium polymer rechargeable battery has a capacity of 1600mA.

Both helmets are sold under the KMW brand name “GigaTera”. KMW believes that the demand for such helmets will expand in the Japanese market, which places great emphasis on disaster countermeasures, and will increase market penetration in the future.
