This marked the third consecutive year of global leadership. The driving range of mainstream passenger vehicles reached over 300 kilometers, matching international standards. Meanwhile, the charging network continued to expand, with 214,000 public charging piles nationwide—up 51% year-on-year—and the highest number in the world. Despite these achievements, challenges remain. The industry still relies heavily on government policies, battery technology faces scrutiny, and charging convenience is a major concern. Minister Miao Wei of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology pointed out that as new energy vehicles become more prevalent, the industry has entered a new phase, but issues such as insufficient charging infrastructure, incomplete policy systems, and the need for breakthroughs in core technologies persist. Globally, major developed countries are actively pushing for the transformation of the automotive sector. Leading automakers and tech companies are competing fiercely in the new energy vehicle space. China must prepare for these future challenges. Chen Qingtai, chairman of the China Electric Vehicle Centenary Association, emphasized that we are witnessing a major automotive revolution, driven by rapid advancements in new energy and information technologies. He urged a broader perspective on how this revolution will shape the economy and society. Liu Baohua, deputy director of the National Energy Administration, stressed that government support in policies and funding remains crucial for the development of electric vehicles. With improved battery technology and more convenient charging, the industry is poised for a breakthrough. Expanding and optimizing the charging infrastructure is essential to support the growth of green transportation. Wan Gang also discussed the future of internal combustion engines, noting that they are trending toward specialization, electrification, and lightweight design. The integration of internal combustion engines with electric motors is expected to be a key development direction. Continued innovation in this area will help improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and contribute significantly to energy conservation and climate change mitigation in the transportation sector.
