Jingdian: VCSEL is getting orders, and there are many development opportunities such as Mini LED and car use.

Taiwan's emerging tech scene is brimming with opportunities this year, and one standout innovation is VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser). Reports indicate that Crystal Power has made significant progress in the optical communication sector, securing customer certifications for its VCSEL technology and even landing orders for 25G VCSEL products. The company is also in the process of certifying new clients for 3D sensing applications, signaling a broader market reach. Jingdian’s Chairman, Li Bingjie, highlighted that the company’s current VCSEL focus is on optical communication, with OEM partnerships spanning both Taiwanese and mainland manufacturers. Additionally, Jingdian has started receiving orders for HDMI transmission using VCSEL technology. In the consumer 3D sensing space, the company is actively working through customer certification processes to expand its footprint. Crystal Power’s spokesperson, Zhang Shixian, pointed out that the evolution of television technology—from 4K to 8K—has created a pressing need for faster data transmission. This trend, especially in Japan where 8K TVs are being showcased at major events like the Olympics, demands a shift from traditional copper cables to more advanced solutions like VCSEL. Crystal Power’s 25G VCSEL is already being deployed to meet these high-speed requirements. The demand for VCSEL is growing rapidly, with more customers entering the market. Beyond traditional OEM partnerships with Taiwanese manufacturers, Crystal Power successfully added a new client last year, which will begin shipments this year. More new clients are expected to join in 2024, further solidifying the company’s position in the industry. VCSEL remains a key development area for Crystal Power this year. The company has already upgraded five to ten MOCVD machines to support 6-inch wafer production, a move that will enhance efficiency and output. Looking ahead, VCSEL is expected to contribute to revenue in 2018, marking an important milestone in the company’s growth strategy. Zhang Shixian also mentioned that 2018 brings numerous opportunities for Crystal Power, including expansion into Mini LED, automotive lighting, plant illumination, and next-generation TV backlights using CSP (Chip-on-Board) technology. However, challenges remain, such as increased competition from mainland Chinese manufacturers, which could impact supply and demand dynamics in the market. With ongoing advancements and strategic investments, the future of VCSEL looks promising, and companies like Crystal Power are well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand across multiple industries.
