Cypress CY4501CCG1 Development Kit : CY4501 The CCG1 Development Kit (DVK) is a development kit based on the Cypress USB Microcontroller CCG1 product family (CYPD11xx). The DVK is mainly used to develop USB host and client systems with Type-C connectors, and is also suitable for the development of EMCA cables. As for the USB PD, the host and client boards of the kit can be configured as a downstream port (DFP), an upstream port (UFP), or a dual-purpose power role port (DRP). Cypress CY4502 EZ-PDTMCCG2 Development Kit: The CY4502 enables designers to evaluate the functionality of the Type-C EMCA (Electronic Identification Cable Assembly) CCG2 controller cable. The CCG2 controller reports cable characteristics (eg, rated current) to the Type-C host. The kit includes two CCG2s - 20-pin WLCSP packages, a 14-pin DFN package, and two Type-C plugs and SWD connectors for CCG2 programming.

Cypress CY4541EZ-PDTMCCG4 Evaluation Kit: CY4541 CCG4 is a development kit based on the Cypress USB Microcontroller CCG4 product family (CYPD4xxx). The EVK is primarily designed for designers to evaluate USB Type-C products (except Type-C EMCA) based on CCG4 design, specifically downstream port (DFP), uplink port (UFP), or dual-purpose power role port (DRP). The CCG4 EVK can support designers in any evaluation of dual Type-C port designs.

Cypress CY4532EZ-PDTMCCG3PA Evaluation Kit: CY4532 CCG3PA is a development kit based on the Cypress USB Microcontroller CCG3PA product family. The EVK is designed for designers to evaluate USB Type-C power adapters based on CCG3PA design, charging treasures, car chargers, and various power product evaluations. The CY4532 can be configured as a power adapter or a charging treasure application by changing the jumper configuration and firmware on the EVK.

1. USB Type-C Power Adapter: CY4532EVK can be demonstrated as a Type-C phone/computer charger with only one external DC power supply. The CY4532 EVK not only supports Type-C charging, but also supports additional Type-A charging. The CY4532 EVK supports not only USB PD, but also BC1.2, QC3.0, Apple 2.4A, and SAMSUNG AFC protocols.

What are the existing CCGx reference designs?

How do you establish a communication connection between a legacy PC without a Type-C port and a CY4501 CCG1 Development Kit motherboard?

The CY4501 DVK (or CY4521, CY4531, CY4541) consists of an onboard USB serial bridge controller that can be configured as a USB to I2C bridge. The USB serial controller (CY7C6521x) is the bridge between the PC USB interface and the CC2x I2C interface. For more details on hardware and software settings, refer to the “I2C Programming” section in the EZ-PD Device Configuration User Manual.

Which multiplexers can CCGx connect to?

Cypress's USBType-C controllers have used multiplexers/switches from Pericom or Parade in DVK or reference designs. The choice of multiplexer depends on the type of application being built . For example, for USBType-C to HDMI transceiver applications, only the sideband use (SBU) line is required to connect the switch, and there is no need to multiplex the ultra high speed line. For multiplexer selection for a specific application, contact your multiplexer vendor or Cypress Technical Support.

Can the CY4501 client board get power from the Type-C Vbus?

No, the CCG1 client board cannot get power from the USBType-C port VBUS. The CY4501 CCG1 client board is powered by a USB mini-B port or AC adapter.

What is the maximum and minimum configuration channel (CC) voltage swing after the PD protocol is established? ?

USB-PD 2.0 communication is controlled by biphase symbol coding (BMC) signaling. Before the USB-PD communication on the CC line occurs, the voltage swing of the CC line is 0V - 5V. During and after USB-PD communication, the voltage swing of the CC line should be between 1.05V and 1.2V with a rating of 1.125V. For more details, please refer to the BMC Transmitter Specifications section of the USB-PD specification.

What is the longest wiring length of the CC line?

In all USB systems, the USB SuperSpeed ​​(SS) and USB High Speed ​​(HS) signals share the same connector, thus limiting the cabling length of the CC line. The USB Type-C's CC signal frequency (up to 330 kHz) is much lower than the SS and HS signals, so there is no strict limit on the CC signal routing length. However, since VCONN passes through one of the CC lines, the IR drop across VCONN is guaranteed to be less than 50mV.

What is the function of the VREF pin in the EZ-PD CCG1 notebook solution?

The CC signal is an analog signal but carries a digital value. Therefore, we need to compare the CC signal with the reference value to determine if it is "0" or "1". In the EZ-PD CCG1-based notebook design, a VREF pin provides a reference value for comparing CC signals.

How do I monitor the signal of communication between the CC line and the CY4501 development kit?

The CY4501 kit (Rev 06) provides an external header to monitor CC line traffic. On the CCG1 motherboard, the 8 and 12 pins of the J2 jumper can be used to monitor CC2 and CC1, respectively. Similarly, on the CCG1 client board, the 8 and 12 pins of the J4 jumper can be used to monitor CC2 and CC1, respectively. The CC pin of the host or client board needs to be connected to a sniffer that is used to decode CC information.
