"Beidou" realizes "standardization" situation, organic coreless mobile phone is coming soon

The "Beidou" navigation satellite system has significantly transformed our daily lives. Its network services now reach over 200 countries and regions. In terms of national security and key sectors, "Beidou" has become more standardized. Recently, the Beidou application has been upgraded again, with rumors circulating about smartphones being sold domestically that support it. "Beidou" is gradually becoming a global standard.

Where has "Beidou" gone? As a "national weapon," it was always destined to enter the homes of ordinary people. The question of when, how, and why to use China's satellite navigation system, "Beidou," has long captured public attention. Therefore, on January 12, when the "Beidou" satellite once again successfully launched in the high-density launch of 2018, these lingering questions resurfaced: When will "Beidou" truly come to us? Where is it now?

Since the launch of the first Beidou navigation satellite over a decade ago, the environment in which Beidou operates has changed dramatically. Alongside the impact of high-speed rail, Alipay, shared bicycles, and online shopping—often called the "new four inventions"—Beidou itself has also evolved. It has moved from providing services within China to serving the Asia-Pacific region, and now aims to offer global coverage by 2020, completing its three-step development plan.

Beidou achieves 'standardization' situation, organic coreless mobile phone is coming soon

Behind the impressive numbers, there may be a different perception among ordinary people. While Beidou is mentioned in some professional fields, it’s not always obvious in everyday life. Where is this "national business card"? More importantly, Beidou isn't just operating in space—it has been providing ground-based services for five years. At a press conference held by the State Council Information Office last year, Yan Chengqi, director of the China Satellite Navigation System Management Office, revealed that over the past five years, China has launched an accelerated auxiliary positioning system supporting Beidou, covering more than 200 countries with over 100 million users and daily service reaching 200 million times.

Reversing the "organic coreless" situation is expected to lead to Beidou becoming the standard in future mobile phones.

When discussing the applications of "Beidou," Qi Cheng often emphasizes national security and key areas first, followed by mass consumption. After all, as a complex system that controls time and space accuracy, Beidou allows China to break free from foreign navigation technologies. In national security and critical sectors, "Beidou" has already become the norm.

According to Qiongqi, the application has created a complete industrial chain—from chips to terminals, manufacturing, and services. For example, the chip process has improved from 0.35 microns to 28 nanometers, with performance even surpassing international equivalents. By the end of 2017, domestic Beidou chip sales exceeded 50 million, and receiver antennas accounted for 90% of the domestic market.

Five years ago, there were no domestic Beidou chips in China, and the "organic coreless" issue was a major challenge. Don’t underestimate these chips—they are the foundation for bringing Beidou into people’s homes. A reporter once asked Qi Chengqi if Beidou could help with drone navigation. He responded that many Chinese unmanned companies have already integrated Beidou chips into their systems.

The change may seem slow, but once it happens, it becomes intense. This phrase perfectly describes the evolution of Beidou’s applications. Qi Chengqi provided data showing that in the past five years, 4.8 million operating vehicles in China have been equipped with Beidou, creating the world’s largest Beidou vehicle networking platform. Over 40,000 fishing vessels nationwide have also installed Beidou.

These figures show that compared to 2012, police response times in China have been reduced by nearly 20%, and disaster reporting times have shortened to within one hour, with emergency response efficiency doubling. Peng Siyi, head of the Comprehensive Planning Department at the Ministry of Transport, confirmed that these improvements are largely due to Beidou. As of last year, Beidou has also rescued over 10,000 fishermen, earning the nickname “sea protection gods” from them.

It’s hard to imagine that five years ago, most of the basic navigation systems used across China were still foreign. In his words, Beidou has transformed from “high up in the sky” to “ground-level utility” in five years.

In Beijing, for example, 33,500 taxis and 21,000 buses are equipped with Beidou for full coverage. Additionally, 1,500 logistics trucks and 19,000 dispatchers use Beidou terminals and bracelets to access the logistics cloud platform for real-time scheduling.

Many people today feel that unless Beidou is used in smartphones, it seems difficult to say it has truly arrived. According to Qi Chengqi, most of the world’s mainstream smartphone chips already support Beidou. He also revealed that Beidou is becoming the standard in domestic smartphone sales.
