HTC releases new Vive Pro with integrated headphones at CES

At this year’s event, the AR section featured 24 exhibitors, marking a 20% increase compared to last year. The exhibition area reached 10,900 square meters. Meanwhile, the Game and VR section saw 46 exhibitors, a drop of 36% from last year's 72, but the booth space expanded by 26% to 37,500 square feet. CES showcased a wide range of innovative products this year. One standout was the new HTC Vive, which offers significant improvements over its predecessor. While VR technology has been gaining momentum for some time now, with many companies launching their own devices, the Vive remains one of the most mature options on the market. However, even the Vive had areas for improvement. At CES, HTC unveiled the Vive Pro, a new head-mounted VR device that brings several key upgrades. Compared to the previous generation VIVE, the Vive Pro features a 37% increase in pixel density and a 78% improvement in overall performance. It uses a dual OLED panel with a resolution of 2880x1600, offering a single-eye resolution of 1440x1600. This higher resolution helps reduce the "screen door effect," where users can see the gaps between pixels, resulting in a much sharper and more immersive visual experience. The Vive Pro also introduces a redesigned wearing system that reduces the weight on the forehead, making it more comfortable for extended use. Additionally, it includes a digital amplifier, dual microphones with noise reduction, and front-facing cameras. To further enhance user freedom, HTC plans to release a wireless adapter in the third quarter of this year, compatible with both the original Vive and the Vive Pro. This means users will soon be able to enjoy a cable-free VR experience. The headset is now all-in-one, eliminating the need for an extra headband as previously required. HTC also partnered with Intel to develop a wireless kit, and the redesigned headband ensures better weight distribution. Another notable feature is the support for Valve’s second-generation base stations, expanding compatibility and improving tracking accuracy. Although the exact price of the Vive Pro hasn’t been announced yet, the standalone headset will be available this quarter, with a full package expected later this year. Overall, the Vive Pro represents a major step forward in VR technology, combining improved hardware, comfort, and flexibility for users.
