HTC releases new Vive Pro with integrated headphones at CES

At this year's CES, the AR section featured 24 exhibitors, a 20% increase compared to last year, with an exhibition area of 10,900 square meters. Meanwhile, the Game and VR sections saw 46 exhibitors, down 36% from last year’s 72, but the booth area expanded by 26% to 37,500 square feet. The event was filled with innovative products, including notable upgrades like the new HTC Vive VR headset. VR technology remained a hot topic in 2018, with many companies launching their own versions. Among them, the HTC Vive was considered one of the most mature options. However, it still had some limitations. At CES, HTC introduced the Vive Pro, an upgraded version that brought significant improvements. The new model features a 37% higher pixel density compared to the original VIVE, and a 78% improvement over the older model. It uses a dual OLED panel with a resolution of 2880x1600 (1440x1600 per eye), offering a much sharper visual experience. For electronic enthusiasts like Wang Xiaobian, the screen window effect is a common issue in VR headsets due to the close proximity of the display to the eyes. A higher resolution can greatly reduce this effect, resulting in a more immersive and realistic image. The Vive Pro also includes a redesigned wearing system that reduces the weight on the forehead, making it more comfortable for long sessions. It comes with a digital amplifier, dual microphones for noise reduction, and front-facing cameras. HTC plans to release a wireless adapter in Q3, allowing both the original Vive and the Vive Pro to go cable-free. This development promises a more seamless virtual reality experience without the hassle of tangled wires. Additionally, the Vive Pro is equipped with an all-in-one headset, eliminating the need for an extra headband. HTC also launched a wireless kit in collaboration with Intel. The redesigned headband improves comfort, while the dual microphones enhance audio quality. The new device supports Valve’s second-generation base stations, ensuring better tracking performance. Although the exact price hasn’t been announced yet, the single headset will be available this quarter, with the full package coming later this year.
