February 8, 2018 — According to the latest price report from LEDinside, the Chinese market saw a slight decline in prices for some high-power and medium-power packaging products in January 2018. This was mainly due to manufacturers cutting prices and the impact of inventory buildup at the end of 2017.
Wang Ting, an analyst at LEDinside, noted that prices for high-power ceramic substrates and medium-power 3030 package products dropped slightly in January. Looking ahead, after the Spring Festival, with new product launches and promotional activities from various manufacturers, it's expected that the price of medium-power 3030 packages may fall further. Meanwhile, high-power LED products are gradually losing market share, but since there are existing customer orders, overall prices are expected to remain stable. Manufacturers are focusing on improving product performance and light efficiency to maintain their positions in the market.

In addition, as competition in the lighting LED market intensifies, major international manufacturers are increasingly focusing on the automotive packaging sector. Headlight LED products are becoming more diverse, with companies like Osram, Nichia, and Seoul Semiconductor introducing single-crystal LEDs for use in near-lights. Currently, most headlight applications use two single-crystal LEDs for the near lamp and four or five for the far lamp, while some designs now use three or four single crystals in the near lamp. These single-crystal vehicle LEDs typically range from 1-5W, with luminous flux between 80-300lm.
The price of LED bulbs has seen a slight increase globally. In Europe, new low-cost filament lamps are performing well in the market.
Globally, LED bulb prices continued to rise slightly in January 2018. The average retail price for LED bulbs replacing 40W incandescent lamps increased by 0.5% to $6.4, while the average price for 60W equivalents rose by 0.2% to $7.50.
Regionally, price trends varied. Prices in Germany fell significantly, while the U.S. saw an increase. Other regions remained relatively stable. In the 40W replacement segment, German prices dropped by 2.4%, partly due to new product launches from Osram and Müller. Among the three new products introduced by Osram, two were LED filament bulbs priced lower than the market average. One six-pack cost just $6.03, which is much lower than typical prices. Sales of these low-cost filament bulbs have been strong.
In the 60W replacement segment, both Germany and Japan saw price declines. Although Japan didn't introduce any new products, companies like Panasonic and Alice Oyema reduced the prices of several products by over 30%. In the U.S., prices rose by 3%, largely due to a rebound in promotional items. Prices in other regions remained stable with minimal fluctuations.
