Old-style sound absorption method is not ideal

The reason why I said that they made a mistake is because they use wooden boards for the sake of bass, "use" boards for sound absorption, and three types of sound absorbing materials such as fiberglass, thick curtains, and carpets for high-pitched sound. These different sound absorbing materials have different sound absorbing characteristics, and after using the three sound absorbing materials, the required sound absorbing area is calculated, and then appropriately arranged on the wall.

The average person uses the above method to build the listening room. Although the frequency response characteristics and the reverberation time are close to the ideal values, it sounds that the sound quality is not as good as expected. I used to make listening rooms with more than ten sounds in the past, but I didn't have a single sound to satisfy me. Of course, they are not bad, but compared with the ordinary undesigned rooms, they are not significant. It is said that although it is designed by sound, it actually has little effect. Many people often ask me what kind of room can hear the best sound effects, I will answer them: the conditions are not the same as simple, there are many complicated factors that will affect the sound effect. Here, please consider the sound transmission in a traditional design listening room: When the sound touches the wooden board for bass absorption, the bass is sucked, and the sound without bass is reflected by the wooden board; When the middle of the sound is smashed, the middle sound is sucked away, and the sound without the middle sound is reflected by the seesaw; when the sound encounters the material that absorbs the high sound, the treble is sucked away, and there is no leftover. The treble sound will be reflected again. Because of the absorption and reflection of the sound, all reflected waves become incomplete sound. These reflected sounds, because they vary in time, do not agree to the time of reaching the listener's ear, so the energy of the sound is very balanced, but the sound of each reflected sound wave cannot have a flat frequency response. This is the main reason why we are not completely satisfied when listening to music. Even if the phase characteristics of the speaker are good, it is useless because the fragmented incomplete reflected waves break the positioning of the sound field.

When I considered the above situation, suddenly a special sound-absorbing method emerged in my mind. The audition room introduced to you below is based on this latest idea design.

The new sound absorption method has the best sound effect

The listening room has an area of ​​85 square meters and only one kind of material for sound absorption; glass fiber. There are two main types of walls in the interior: one is a hard board that reflects all sounds; and the other is a sound absorbing material that absorbs sound evenly from low to high frequency bands. This method of sound absorption makes all the reflected sounds only the complete sound waves reflected by the hard surface, so the most resounding effect (echo) should be heard. This audition room was called by the company. Not only does it have a very flat reverberant sound, but the sound is very standard and faithful. Using this audition room to listen to different speakers, the difference in sound quality of various speakers is very easy to judge, and the sound quality is the most authentic, the sound quality can be heard better and better than when placed in other rooms. Therefore, the speaker designer of the company will use the sound quality of the audition room as a standard, because it can judge its true sound quality. Construction of a new audition room

The structure of this auditorium, the outermost wall, is of course the best triple-walled wall with soundproofing properties. Inside the outer wall, there is an inner wall, which is made up of a combination of hardwood and nylon mesh with a thickness of 2.6. The glass and the outer wall are filled with glass fiber. The thickness of the glass fiber for sound absorption is the length of the bass reverberation time. Generally speaking, the four side walls are fifteen to twenty centimeters thick. It is enough for the ceiling to be thirty centimeters thick. If you are using a giant speaker, you also need to increase the thickness of the sound absorbing material; on the contrary, if you use only a small speaker, ten to fifteen centimeters is quite enough. Since the general audition room does not absorb low frequencies below 100 Hz, it is possible to make up for the lack of bass when using a small speaker. Therefore, the newly designed audition room can be absorbed evenly from high to low frequencies, so it is generally small. When the speaker is found to be insufficient bass, it is normal to use an equalizer to compensate for this frequency if necessary. The wooden board for reflecting sound should be as thick as possible, and it is ideal to achieve no resonance. It is ideal to use two pieces of nine to twelve millimeter thick planks together. Of course, these planks should be firmly mounted on the ground with angle irons. The sound absorbing part (that is, between the boards) can use the slightly stretchable plastic used in the speaker net, and it is most desirable to stack the two pieces together.

About the shape of the room

The shape of the room is most important and must be such that no parallel faces are created. Once the room has parallel faces, it will be made with echoes, standing waves and other undesirable phenomena. Therefore, the walls and ceilings can be designed to be inclined, and can be designed into a wave shape, or a ceiling tilt or a wall wave shape; even a ceiling wave type or a wall tilt type can be used. The angle of inclination is preferably more than five degrees.

There is one point that everyone must pay attention to: the angle between the reflective surfaces. If the tilt angle is not correct, it will produce unnecessary echo. If the environment does not permit tilt or wave, you can place the furniture outside the four walls. , so that the parallel faces disappear. The use of sound-absorbing and reflective surfaces can also eliminate echo, but it may have some effect on the stereo image.

Reverberation time design

How big is the sound-absorbing area? The louder the sound-absorbing area, the shorter the reverberation time; the finer the sound-absorbing area, the longer the reverberation time. This is the basic principle in acoustics. The most appropriate reverberation time of the audition room. Generally speaking, when listening to music exclusively, the reverberation time is longer. When the quality of the audio equipment is used exclusively, the reverberation time is short. Since the combing chair in the room increases the sound absorbing area, it is necessary to pre-length to offset the combed sound absorbing area before calculating the reverberation time. You can use the reverberation time and the size of the room to find the "average sound absorption rate". The so-called "average sound absorption rate" means that the various materials in the room are summarized, and the average sound absorption capacity value is calculated on average. In other words, using the average sound absorption rate to multiply the total surface area of ​​the entire room gives the value of the surface area of ​​the sound absorbing part. (The wall surface inside this audition room contains two materials; reflected sound and absorbed sound.) For example: If you want the average sound absorption rate to be 0.2, you need to make the total surface area of ​​the room two tenths into the sound absorption area. . Therefore, the newly designed audition room can be manually operated only by calculating the sound absorbing area, and the design is very simple. For the convenience of the reader, I have calculated all the values ​​of the general room. A stack is equal to eighteen square feet (Japanese common area units), generally one hundred to three hundred square feet of room, the average sound absorption rate is about 0.15 ~ 0.17 (listening to music) and 0.23 ~ 0.25 (test equipment); In other words, the sound absorption area of ​​the general audition room is about 15 to 17 percent of the total surface area of ​​the whole room. However, I assume that the board is completely reflected in sound waves, and the sound absorption rate is zero; but in fact, the board and the floor will also have a slight sound absorbing ability, so the reverberation time obtained by the above calculation method may be different in reality. The realistic reverberation time may be shorter. The sound absorption rate of the board in high audio is 0.05, and the surface area of ​​about 4% of the total surface area of ​​the whole room will be sucked out. Therefore, if the original calculation is to make the total area of ​​the whole room as the sound absorption area, since the wood and the floor will occupy 4% of the sound absorption area, it is sufficient to have only 16% of the sound absorption surface area.

For this reason, by subtracting 4% from the figure obtained above, the following figures are obtained: the room that purely appreciates music, the sound-absorbing area accounts for about 11~13 of the total surface area; the room of the audition equipment can only account for the sound-absorbing area. A total of 19 to 21 of the total surface area is sufficient. The width of each section of the sound absorbing area can be set at two to three feet, and the width of each piece of wood reflecting the sound is preferably three feet. If the front side of the sound source is covered with reflective wood in front of the full wall, the sound quality will tend to be fuller; if it is the audition room that emphasizes the sound field positioning, the reflection in front of the speaker will be more suitable.
