The four major airlines gather! Air China Officially Opens Its Mobile Phone

In a major shift for in-flight regulations, China's four largest airlines—China Eastern, Hainan, China Southern, and Air China—have all now officially allowed the use of portable electronic devices (PEDs) on their flights. This marks a significant milestone for travelers, who can now enjoy using their devices during flights, provided they follow certain guidelines. Air China was the last of the big four to announce its policy, which came into effect at noon on January 21, 2018, Beijing Time. The airline has laid out clear rules regarding when and how passengers can use their electronic gadgets onboard. The goal is to ensure safety while allowing passengers more flexibility and comfort during their journey. According to the official statement, the use of certain electronic devices is strictly prohibited throughout the entire flight. These include devices with transmit power above 100mW, such as mobile phones without a specific transmit power label, satellite phones, mobile Wi-Fi units, remote control toys, and drone controllers. Such items are considered potential hazards due to their ability to interfere with aircraft systems. During critical flight phases—like takeoff, climbing, and landing—passengers are not allowed to use any electronic devices. However, once the plane reaches cruising altitude, most personal electronics can be used, provided they are in airplane mode. Devices like smartphones, e-readers, tablets, and game consoles are permitted, as long as cellular communication is disabled. Additionally, certain medical devices, such as pacemakers, hearing aids, and certified portable oxygen concentrators (POCs), are allowed to be used throughout the flight. These are considered essential for passenger health and do not interfere with the aircraft’s navigation or communication systems. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth must be turned off during critical flight phases, and passengers are advised not to connect any external devices, such as headphones or charging cables, during these times. Voice and data communications are also restricted to prevent interference. In rare cases where the pilot suspects that an electronic device is causing interference, they have the authority to ask passengers to turn off their devices immediately. This precaution is taken to ensure the safety of the flight and the well-being of all passengers. With this new policy, travelers can now enjoy a more connected and enjoyable flying experience. Whether you're watching a movie, reading a book, or simply staying in touch with loved ones, the skies are now a little more convenient for tech-savvy flyers. This change reflects a growing trend in the aviation industry worldwide, where airlines are gradually updating their policies to align with modern technology and passenger expectations. It's a welcome update for anyone who spends time in the air, making the journey not just safer, but also more enjoyable.
